A couple of hours ago I saw a commercial for BAND-AID Brand. It was sweet, gentle, and comforting. The key phrases in it were "Covering is caring. Covering heals."
It went on to show a blanket being put around a sleeping kid. A fly sheet was put on a horse to warm it. Parents of a tiny baby ran through the rain under the shelter of a coat placed over all of their heads. A helmet was placed on a young boy's head as he started off on his bicycle ride. A family was watching a scary show and dad covered daughter's eyes so she wouldn't be frightened. Oh, and I mustn't forget the dude who covered up his hawg so it wouldn't get bothered by the elements.
The fella in the background talked soothingly about protecting the things we cherish. As it played, I couldn't help but think of another product (if you will) that covers, protects, heals, and cares. His name is Jesus Christ and Psalm 91:4 tells that "He will cover you with His feathers; you will take refuge under His wings. His faithfulness will be a protective shield."
Are you in need of comfort today, friends? Got some boo boos that need some special attention? Are you concerned for a loved one? Take your cares to Christ. If You'll allow Him to, He will heal the scars on your hearts and in your bodies. He will care for you better than any brother or friend. Under the wings of God, there is no harm that can overtake you. The hurt and the Healer collide when we cry out to Jesus. Aren't you tired of the pain? Do you want some relief from the storms in your lives? All you have to do is go to Him. Remember the story of the prodigal son? His dad was watching for his son's return. Yours is too.
Let's pray.
Dear Holy God, how I thank You for the comfort You so willingly give and supply. As I reflect on this verse and the commercial that reminded me of Your capacities, Lord, to fix what is broken, my heart sings a quiet song of rejoicing. Thank You for healing me, for kissing me when I hurt, and for allowing me to burrow in Your arms when I just need to be held. I love You and praise You for all that You do to make me better. In the name of Jesus, amen.
Welcome to my blog! I can't promise you that each one will be sweet or sentimental but I can tell you this: each time I post what's on my mind, it will be sincere. Join me as I try to make sense of the things that go on around me and relate them to the love lessons my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ is constantly teaching me with all that I see.

Paying the Piper
I've been struggling lately with my blog writing. Not that I don't have much to share but...but maybe I share too much? I've been studying the Book of Ecclesiastes these past few days and like Solomon, I wonder if it all just isn't vanity. Sigh. I watch my "likes" increase each week but...but my "unlikes" have not allowed my page to grow in readership as high as my hopes for it to have risen. . Like the old adage of taking two steps forward to only fall three steps further behind, I am not seeing the growth of my works, or at least not according to my Facebook statistics. This troubles me and in some ways makes me feel defeated.
So I've been pondering. Maybe it's time to stop writing? Maybe my popularity (such as it is) has waned and it's time to move on to other venues? Maybe I should keep my thoughts and wanderings to myself and only share when I feel like 'this one' is a really good one? Maybe no one out there is as messed up as I am and the world doesn't need Wandering Through The Bible--or, if they do, maybe not now. After all, how many times have I read something written Lord knows when and it's been effective or struck some chord within me? Maybe I should just let my words sit and hope that one day some soul who needs to read them will happen across them? I mean, seriously, do I not get notes from folks who found a certain blog I wrote helpful to them--even though it may have been written months or even years ago?
I know I shouldn't care, shouldn't be bothered by this indifference I perceive by the world. The devil sure tries to get me to be in constant flux with it! I tell myself and my husband tells me that God will lead to my blog whom He chooses to. Am I writing it for Him or for the world? Whom am I to try to assist anyways when I myself am in need of so much wisdom?
So, today I came up with three thoughts and if you are one of the ones who actually is still reading my blog, please respond. Ready?
- Are my blogs helping? Are they useful in your spiritual walk? Do they compel you to study further things you have believed all of your life but now find yourself needing more clarity about?
- Are my blogs healing? Does my sharing of my pains, my downfalls, my finally being able to forgive so many for the hurts that have been caused in my life encourage you to let go of your haunts as well?
- Lastly, are my blogs hindering you? The fact that I post so often: does this cause you to just click on "unfollow" or "unlike" so that they don't appear in your newsfeed? Is my honesty and continuous learning that I feel so compelled to share getting on your nerves?
I don't want to be a hindrance. I don't want to be annoying you and the truth of the matter is that no one is making you read these antics of mine. No one is standing with a weapon over your heads forcing you to see what mess ol' Stef has gotten herself into this time and read of how even though the Lord has delivered her from it before, she still needs a refresher course.
All in all, I cannot stop writing. It's in my blood and it must be purged often or I will just implode. Nobody wants to see that happen. So, I leave my writings in your hands. If you like them, great. If you don't or can only take me in small doses, that's cool too. I'm really trying to be useful but I am not the teacher. Jesus is and He is Whom I am continually learning from. Sometimes the stuff He teaches me is just too good to keep to myself so...when that happens, Wandering Through The Bible will be here for you. Most importantly though, God is here in you, the hope of glory, the only One Who can make your wrongs right. Unfollow me if you must, but please stay on track with Christ.

Happy birthday to me!
June 18, 2015
Tomorrow is Wandering Through The Bible's second birthday. Can you believe it? For two whole years I have been sharing and baring my heart and soul with you as I have sought to have a closer relationship with my Father God and my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Oh the words I have written--and deleted--as my thoughts have wandered to and fro! Topics have included things such as mothers, daughters, husbands, friends, fellowship, failures, guarding the tongue and captivating the thoughts. Inspiration has come from my hubby, my grandsons, Walmart, dogs, nature, the internet, and messages heard on the radio, in chat rooms, and in church.
It's been quite a journey. What started out as a way for a friend and I to continue our morning Bible Study evolved into lessons on how to study the Bible, how to learn that no matter how rotten one thinks she is, there is still One Who redeems and restores. Sadly, there were times when I'd use this blog as a platform for whatever social incident offended me at the time but even in those incidences, God showed me His grace. The blog has also been a great way to meet new people. Prayers have been shared as mutual angst was empathized over. Encouragement has been sent to those who just need a little pick-me-up. Posts were frequently shared as a topic hit home to hurting hearts.
All in all, it's been quite the journey. I am thankful for the opportunity to reach those via Facebook that I may never see this side of heaven. I am grateful for the support of many of you who comment on my page and/or send me notes to encourage. Mostly though, I am afraid. I am afraid that this huge responsibility will be overshadowed by my opinions and thoughts rather than being led by those of our Lord. Yes, some would argue, it's "my blog" and I should be able to write whatever I please. But this is not so, friends.
The power to use my talent of expressing what others are also thinking into sentences and paragraphs is one that I do not take lightly. I used to but I have come quite a ways since June 19, 2013. Losing my mother and the after-effects of the greatest betrayal I'd ever faced was...it was wrenching. There was much anger, hurt, and so many mixed emotions going on, not to mention all of the lies and whispers of the devil. For a while there, I was quite a mess but through this blog and the wondrous grace of God, I was able to work through my grief and loss and see the bigger picture. God's good that way, isn't He? He allows His children time to mourn and to heal and then, finally, to grow. To go on. To see that what happens down here is temporary--even though at times it feels like the pain will never stop.
Writing has been therapeutic for me and I thank God that He has allowed me to share my hurts and achievements with you, dear readers. As the next year of blogging begins tomorrow, my hope is that I will continue to inspire, motivate, and encourage you all through my struggles and lessons learned so that you too can heal. You too can let it go (whatever your "it" may be). My prayer is that you hold on tighter to Jesus than ever before and that you know--you know--He's got you and He's not letting go. Let's pray together now, shall we?
Oh dear Father, what a joy it has been to write my heart for all the world to see. Scary, yes. The risk of ridicule, the fear of no one caring, the taunts of Satan that I was just making a fool out of myself? All of those emotions ran the gamut of my thoughts, Lord, as I endeavoured to share my soul in hopes of helping someone else through her darknesses.
Lord, as the next year begins, my prayer is that others too will find release and relief in words. Not just mine (although I hope my readers will multiply and my territory expand). No, Lord, my real hope is that through Your Word, through Your teachers, through Your singers, and through Your people that more eyes turn to Christ than ever before. How we need Him, Father! This world is so crushing at times that it's all some of us can do to take the next breath, to put that one foot in front of the other and keep walking. And for some, Lord, it's harder still to just stand up and...stand.
Help us, I pray, Lord God, to seek You first in our days. Remind us with Your songs and with the quotes we see plastered all over Facebook that no matter how rocky the road, You are walking right there beside of us, already knowing what lies ahead.
Finally, Lord, thank You. You have been so longsuffering with me as I have tried to make sense out of things that just didn't always add up. You have been gentle with me when I have been petulant. You have tenderly held me when it seemed no one else cared. You have been, You are still, so good to me. Thank You for loving me when others didn't. Thank You for loving me in spite of myself. Thank You for being You. I love You, Lord. In the name of Jesus I conclude. Amen.
